Khasar Juchen (registered name, Prior of the Abbey of Leng, a,k.a., Jehansuh Ess-Salaam memo Hazara Khan, a.k.a. Narth the barbarian

Persona

Khasar. whose name means terrible dog, originally hailed from the Golden Horde. After the defeat of Tokhtamysh by Tamerlane, he left his homeland and wandered along the northern coast of the Black Sea. In his travels he encountered the Abbot Leng with whom he began a lasting friendship. He joined the Abbot in a westerly migration which ended in the Balkans of eastern Europe. He was made a prior by the Abbot and founded a priori of the Abbey in Carpathia in the early part of the 15th century. Apart from occasional appearances at tournaments in the Barony of Calafia under the guise of a barbarian named Narth starting about A.S.V, little more was heard of him until the Abbot issued a call to arms on behalf of his kinsman, Baron Talanque. Then Khasar, under the name Jehansuh (the world burner), joined the brethren of the Abbey at the 2nd Caidan rebellion against the Kingdom of the West. Thereafter, he was involved in several later wars between Caid and the kingdoms of the West and Atonveldt as part of the Abbey contingent fighting for Calafia. Together with his friend and retainer, Tunok Shieldbreaker, was created a fighting unit called the mangudai (god-belonging) which served as shock troops for the Abbey. Khasar served a year as seneschal of Calafia around A.S.XIV succeeding Lord Tryggvi Halftrollson and preceding Lord Aethelred the Jute. He attended the coronation of King Gregory of York of the West by whose gracious hand he received an Award of Arms. After a falling out with certain brethren of the Abbey, he returned to Carpathia and the governance of his priori. He is the known author of a few songs (the furry, frothing gang, the slaying song, we three men (from the Abbey line), I’ve got Mongols, and Everybody ought to have a glaive (with apologies to Stephen Sondheim)), and a poem entitled The Firedrake. His favorite weapons are the naginata and the mace and chain, although he has been known to employ pike-mauls, hooked spear, greatswords, or any other weapon that came conveniently to hand. His hauberk was distinctive from the fur gambeson underneath and the char aina which overlaid the mail.

More Information

  • The picture currently shown at URL http://wiki.caid-commons.org/index.php/Jehansah_ess_Salaam_memo_hazara_Khan-ad-Din, is not of Jehansuh, but of Prior Khasar.
  • Furthermore, the name linking this page is incorrect. Jehansuh is merely Hazara-Khan, not Khan-ad-Din.
  • His cousin, Kamal Mishwa ibn Djavid Daoud Khan-ad-Din added the -ad-Din to his name and this addition is often added mistakenly to Jehansuh's name as well.
  • As indicated in the writ of acceptance sent to him by Countess Leonora Morgana, Aurum Clerk to the Crescent Principal Herald of Caid, dated March 18, A.S. XXVI, the device of Khasar Juchen is officially described as sable, two sheaves of arrows and a wolf rampant contourney Or. The device is associated with the award of arms granted by King Gregory and Queen Bevin at their court following their coronation as King and Queen of the West. This award was granted to Jehansuh which name, proving unacceptable to the Caidan College of Heralds who assumed this patent from the West, was changed on the submission to the persona of Khasar Juchen instead
