Viscondesa Jimena Montoya
fallen in Fall Crown Tourney A.S. XLIII

(cuaderna via)

Regardless how the ardor of August skies might bake her
Jimena donned her armor upon the sun-parched acre,
Determined to discover how far might fortune take her
If poor Montoya’s widow took up the widow-maker.
She strode upon the eric to face her first contender
And found that she was pitted against Count Sven Orfhedur.
She fought a valiant battle but Death respects no gender,
And all her skillful parries were useless to defend her.
Next, Sir Mons von Goarhausen was slated to combat her.
Their weapons sung a descant above their armors’ clatter —
A song of triumph for him; for her, another matter,
As Mons’ final sword-blow made dreams of queenship shatter.
Alas for our Jimena! She thought she could outstrive all
And at the tourney’s ending remain the lone survival.
But she was not the victor against a single rival
And so this fighter poem is essentially archival.

...you may notice my interpretation of cuaderna via differes from the poet's handbook. I'll be happy to defend my position if need be, in a couple weeks...(when she gets back from her honeymoon!).
