Torches! Sketchbook! Action!

Hollywood has always portrayed the Middle Ages with great, ummm...imagination. Ladies wearing chiffon and polyester, clean-shaven peasants, impossible sword fights, etc. With our tongues firmly in our cheeks, Altavia invites you to celebrate Yule with us... Hollywood Style! (Cue the Jazz Hands.)

What does this mean to you? You get to dress as your favorite Hollywood style medieval character! – Always wanted to get rid of that gold lamé? Here is your chance! Pick a movie and come as a specific character. Or do your own version of a 'bad' Hollywood costume. Or maybe you want to go Glam. – What would Henry the Fifth have worn to a gala red carpet opening?? Dress to the nines and wow your fans! Paparazzi will be present!

We have a grand feast all planned out for the evening's meal. Additionally, there will be a dessert contest after the feast; entries should serve 8-12 people. Please include a list of the ingredients for those with food allergies. (We don't want anyone eating the pellet with the poison, do we?) Feast space is limited so please contact "Lady Monique for reservations. Reservations not claimed and paid by 4:00 PM will be given away to others. This is a wet site so your chalice with the palace can hold the brew that is true.

Other events planned:

  • An unstructured evening of games is planned for all ages. Bring your cards, games and puzzles to play and share! Got anything that might fit the Hollywood Yule theme? The game room will be open during the feast. Come early for the revel and hang out there. Drinks are allowed in the gaming room, but please no food.
  • Awards will be given for best costume and the best table setting. Extra points for incorporating the theme! Candles are allowed but they must be enclosed (the container must be an inch above the flame).

Along with the other absurdity at this Yule, we will also be determining our new Bardic Champion! Contestants for the Bard of Altavia shall perform a "Theme" for the barony. What does this mean? Almost anything -- It can be an original composition, or a performance of an existing piece; accurately historic, or only historically inspired; musical or dramatic - the only requirement is that your performance embodies Altavia and all its glory! The contest will start shortly after dinner is served. The winner will be selected by Their Excellencies and ALL previous Bards of Altavia (though said judges will also be influenced by audience response!!)

Altavian Bardic Champion

From TE Altavia:

As the current Bard of Altavia, I'm looking forward to a tough desicion. I hope to see a few past bards present to help us choose between the many talented performers that I expect to attend and compete.

Best of luck! ~Meala Caimbeul
