And gentlemen in Caid now-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here
In 1415, King Henry V and his band of brothers won a decisive victory in the Hundred Years’ War at the rolling fields of Agincourt. Come celebrate, once again, the victory of the humble English longbow over the pride of French chivalry.
The Barony of Altavia invites you to join us on October 27, 2013 at Woodley Park archery range as we celebrate the 598th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt.
Altavia's Archery and Thrown Weapons champions (adult and youth) will be decided from the day's competitors. The archery champion will be decided by a Forester round. There will also be a novelty shoot, a crossbow shoot, and we hope to have a clout shoot, as well.
Young archers and throwers of Caid are welcome. They may participate if they have passed the proper authorizations and meet the following requirements:
Persons 14 through 17 years of age must have a properly executed minor's waver and medical authorization form on their person; a parent or legal guardian must sign them into the thrown weapons competition.
Persons under 14 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian in attendance with them at the event.
Our Youth champion categories are: Youth Archery 10 and under, Youth Archery 11 and up, and Youth Thrown Weapons (all ages).
Contests: Do you like fun? Do you like competing? There will be several contests throughout the day for the populace to take part in! Please check the event’s Facebook page and the Kingdom Calendar for more details as the event approaches.
Fiber Play Day: Come sit under the trees, watch the competition, play with fibers, work on unfinished projects, and maybe learn a new hobby.
Schedule for the Day:
- 8 am Site opens & Thrown Weapons Authorizations begin
- 10 am Opening Court
- 5 pm Closing Court
- 6 pm Site closes

Directions to the event:
Take your favorite route to the 405 and Burbank Blvd.
From the 405 North:
Exit at Burbank Blvd and turn left. At Woodley, turn right. Look for a sign that bears the legend "Japanese Gardens". Turn right towards the gardens. Just before entering the gardens, turn right on the access road that traverses that park picnic grounds. Continue along this road until you reach a traffic circle. The Archery range is on the left, up the hill. Parking is limited up near the range, but overflow parking is available alongside the range, behind the paved lot.

Altavia's Agincourt Archery Tournament was Great!
The weather was Great!
The shooting was Great!
The Chivalry was Great!
IT WAS A GREAT DAY!!!
Over 40 Archers participated throughout the day.
We had a great yeoman demo of armor piercing arrows.
The clout shoot, three ends of six arrows shot at 100 yards. Esmeralda came in second with 50 And Winfred of Heatherwine, shooting for Lyondemere, won with a 55.
The novelty shoot was won by Robert McFarland of Calafia with a score of 135 Esmeralda came in second with 103 points.
The Forester rounds were exceptionally exciting.
Altavia's youth champion is Tara of Cathess age 10. Nicholi Staghorn came in Second age 8.
The Crossbow champion is Winfred of Heatherwine, shooting for Lyondemere. Countess Jane, recently of Isles, came in a very close second. The Countess came in the finals undefeated and Winfred had to defeat her twice. Very impressive shooting from them both! Finally,
Altavia's new Agincourt Champion is Bridgid ni Murine of Calafia! Bruce the Archer, at his first tournament. Came in second!
That's the news from Agincourt.
Thanks to all the people that made the day flow.
I will list them in a separate e maile after I get off work.
Ala in all the day was...........pretty special.
Altavia captain of archers
Wish you all could have been there. If your number had been called and many (28 adults and 3 Youths) a number were called. First you had to make a dash for your weapon. You had 10 seconds to run while dodging thrown animals that were out to kill you. Your goal to pick up one weapon that would earn you double points on your first throw.Oh, did I FAIL TO MENTION THAT YOU ALSO HAD TO WEAR A PAIR OF CHILDREN'S BOO HALLOWEEN GLASSES! - yes there was that too. There were 4 types, knives, axes, spears and bolos.
You had 4 knives to throw at the board that had many pictures of various archers from many tv and movies. Any pictures with weapons were worth 5 points if stuck, 3 points if you stuck a picture with just a person, 5 points for sticking a giant pumpkin marsh mellow, and 1 point for sticking the wood.
You got 4 axes 2 for each target that had archers on them. 5 points for sticking archers or the bow and 1 point for any stick on the round.
You got 4 spears there were several round disks with pictures, skulls and pumpin's and a large pumpkin and a carved pineapple with a blood bladder, all worth 5 points if stuck. 1 point for sticking hay.
You got 3 bolo throws at the animals 15 feet away. 3 points for each animal hit.
And of course what ever your first weapon was that you raced to get you got double points for.
Of the 28 adults the top four
- Friedrich with 47 points
- Daud with 38 points
- Ihon with 37 points
- Cormac with 35
They each had to run for a weapon again. This time dodging the throws of their Excellencies, Baron Secca and Baroness Meliora. They got 1 shot at each with their weapon of choice getting double scored and the results were:
- 4th Freidrich (his first TW competition ever!)
- 3rd Daud
- 2nd Ihon
- 1st and Altavia's newest Thrown Weapons Champion Cormac Mor
The Youth threw the same but were given 1 point for every marsh mellow that dropped on the knives.
- 3rd place Holly with 11 points
- 2nd place Gerhard with 17 points
- 1st place and Altavia's Youth TW Champion Nicolai with 31 points
I would like to thank all who came out to make the Hunger Throw a success. My Marshals, Vigaulfr and Letizia, for standing in the sun all day. Cristof and Thorin for helping me set up. James for bringing the straw bales. Sorcha for assisting with the youth. Tezar for running lists. And everyone who came out to throw and help set up and tear down, a big Thank You, we really do appreciate all you do.
